This source of some amps for voltages up to 40 V was found in an Italian magazine Elettronica Pratica of 1977. The circuit can be mounted with current transistors such as BC547, BC557 and for the power one we can use the TIP42A. The transistor must have a good heat radiator and the secondary of the transformer is 50 V x 3 A.
