In the figure we have a simple way to obtain high voltage from an automotive alternator. As it already generates alternating voltage, it can directly supply a transformer that has a 12 V winding. The current can typically be between 500 mA to 5 A. In the old original, the circuit is suggested to supply a tube radio.
