This circuit is from 1995 documentation. When the phone is lifted, the relay closes its contacts by activating an external recorder or amplifier. The line signal is then applied to the amplifier or brake via a small transformer. The low resistance of the transformer winding makes it difficult to detect the system. Low resistance relay should be used, preferably a reed relay.
