The TSC102 integrated circuit from ST-Microelectronics consists of a current sensor system that, in addition to the amplifier of the sensor's own signal, also adds a signal conditioning amplifier. The circuit shown in Figure 1 is powered by a voltage of 5 V and has a range of 2.8 V to 30 V of common mode operation. Current consumption is only 420 µA. Among the applications suggested by ST are battery chargers, current monitoring in automotive systems, notebooks, DC motor control, photovoltaic systems, precision current sources, UPS and sources in general. The purpose of the circuit is to transform the current that flows through the sensor resistor (of very low value) into a proportional voltage referenced to ground for processing and control.
