The circuit triggers a warning system after the programmed time interval. The circuit uses a CMOS splitter to obtain long intervals, selected by the switch that multiplies the 555-timing cycle. The 555-timing cycle is set in the pot and depends on C1. The capacitor C1 can be increased to obtain intervals that reach several hours.
