This simple medium wave receiver with a transistor can employ any type of general-purpose germanium or even silicon. The antenna must be long and the output transformer of the autotransformer type to excite a crystal phone. The coil consists of 80 to 100 turns of wire 28 or 32 in a ferrite rod.
