The circuit shown in the figure trips with a short positive pulse at the input and produces a high level at the output over a time interval given by C by the 470k resistor. For a 470k resistor and 10 uF capacitor, we have an interval of about 4 seconds. The circuit can be used in applications such as tachometers in which pulses of constant duration are required or even in timing as the resistor can accept values as high as 2M2 and the capacitor up to 1,000 uF which would allow the production of intervals of even more an hour.
