The circuit illustrated in the figure allows controlling an LED from a TTL output, which in this case is an AND gate. When the two inputs are at the high level, the transistor conducts feeding the LED. The circuit can be changed to perform functions of optical ports of other types with the association of other functions at the input, such as inverters.
