I found this typical shunt regulator circuit in an Argentine magazine from 1973. The circuit can be assembled with the 2N3055 transistor in a good heat radiator. The zener diode CR determines the output voltage and other values can be used. Note the high dissipation of resistor R1. This circuit has a very low efficiency, since a large part of the unused power in the load is dissipated in the transistor.
