This circuit can be used in PLL, frequency synthesizer in FM and VHF receivers, reducing a frequency to a value that can be used by slower digital circuits. The DS8617 integrated circuit divides the frequency by 24 while the DS8628 divides by 20. The suffix of the integrated ones determines the maximum operating frequency. Thus, those with suffix 3 and 4 have a maximum frequency of 130 MHz and those with suffix 2 and without suffix operate up to 225 MHz. The supply voltage is 5V and the input sensitivity is 100 mV for those with suffix 3 and 4 and 40 mV for suffix 2 and standard. The integrated circuit for this application is manufactured by National Semiconductor.
