The energy that powers this radio's amplifier circuit is obtained from the signal itself. The coil consists of 80 to 100 turns of wire 28 in a ferrite rod and the transistor should preferably be a PNP of germanium that can be obtained from an old radio. The headset is high impedance magnetic, but in its absence, a crystal or piezoelectric headset with a 10k resistor can be used in parallel. The antenna must be very long, at least 10 m long. The diodes, which must be germanium like 1N34, are used for different functions. Two rectify the signal to power the transistor and the third detects radio signals.
