In the original version, from an old publication from the 1970s, this receiver uses germanium transistors, but can be mounted with silicon transistors. The cap has a 100-turn primary and a 20-turn secondary, both on a 28 or 30 wire ferrite rod. The transformer is output to transistors supplying a headphone or speaker. The antenna must be long, and the variable capacitor is obtained from an unused AM radio. BC558 transistors can be used and the circuit powered by voltages from 6 to 9 V.
