I found this circuit in an Electronics Handbook, an American publication from 1989 and that no longer exists. The transistors can be the BC548. The circuit converts 5 V TTL signals to 12 V symmetrical signals, as required by the RS232C standard. Note that the power supply must be symmetrical.
