LM73 and LM73 Q1 Temperature sensor with 2-wire interface (ART336aE)

Texas Instruments recently introduced the temperature sensors LM73 / LM73-Q1 for Surface Mount (SOT23), with a 2-wire (two-wire) interface for applications such as vehicle climate control, steering systems, instrumentation monitoring, and so on. See this article for more details on this component.

The Texas Instruments LM73 and LM73-Q1 integrated circuits consists of temperature sensors containing an incremental Sigma-Delta ADC that provides digitized outputs from 11 to 14 bits with a 2-wire (2-wire) interface.

Compatibility is with SMBus and I2C buses and can be activated to read the temperature at any time. The housing is SOT23 with the pinout shown in figure 1.

More details on these components can be found in the datasheet available at http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm73-q1.pdf  , such as the function of each component pin.

Mouser Electronics is one of the distributors that can provide this component by simply accessing: http://www.mouser.com/search/refine.aspx?Ntk=P_MarCom&Ntt=146110030

   The operating temperature range of the LM73-Q1 ranges from -40 ° C to + 125 ° C with an accuracy of +/- 1.45 ° C in the range of -10 ° C to + 80 ° C and the supply voltage is 2.7 V.

In figure 2 we have an application circuit.

The devices also have options for adjustment of resolution which allows optimizing the accuracy for a specific application.

The operating current is 320 uA and in shutdown condition this current drops to 1.5 uA, typical values.

In figure 3 we have the functional diagram of this temperature sensor.

Important function to be considered in this component is ALERT which indicates an overtemperature condition. The point at which this occurs can be adjusted externally.
