For trigger high power loads connected to the power grid, nothing better than using a TRIAC. For this purpose, optical couplers such as the MOC3010 (110 V) and MOC3020 (220 V) series can be used. The circuit shown in the figure makes use of an MOC3010 and is suitable for triggering resistive loads.
